Drive Cleanup

Every file you've ever deleted is, very possibly, still sitting on your computer. Your computer has thousands of old, deleted files on its drives. Even if you empty the Trash or Recycle Bin, these deleted files don't go away. Anyone, with very little skill, can resurrect them.

EraseData has two options for erasing these old files. First, it can erase the files that are currently sitting in your Trash or Recycle Bin. Second, it can round up the deleted files you can't see and permanently erase them.

Erase the Trash or Recycle Bin

To empty your Trash or Recycle Bin and permanently erase all of the files that are in it, follow these steps:

  1. Select Erase the Trash / Recycle Bin
  2. Click the Erase button
  3. Select the Eraser you want to use  (see the warning below)
  4. Click Yes

Erase Old Deleted Files

To erase the deleted files that are still lingering on your drive, follow these steps. Note that this will not affect any of the "live" files on your drive.

  1. Select Erase the old deleted files ...
  2. Click the Erase button
  3. Select the Eraser you want to use  (see the warning below)
  4. Click Yes

Warning: Solid State Drives (SSD)

If your computer has a solid state drive (SSD), we strongly recommend that you use one of these two erasers:

This will minimize the wear on your drive and help prolong its lifespan.

Note that most newer computers use solid state drives.
